That's a fine looking Hell Strip

I spent a surprisingly large amount of time on our hell strip today. First, I picked up some compost from Ye Olde Pile, then I tilled the darned thing, then I planted and planted. There is a ridiculously overlarge birch tree just to the right of this photo.

Needless to say - I didn't till/plant right up to it since damaging the roots of something several times taller than our home seems like a bad idea. I'm going to try and find some innocuous, weed repressing, fast growing ground cover to spread at its base.

Overall the project took less than $20 since the mums were $1 and the hostas 3/$2.49. The mums will probably overcrowd the hostas eventually so I may be moving them next year.

But for now? I'm thrilled!
