Day 20 - A band that you immediately liked and the song that made you like them

Kanye West - Jesus Walks

It was about 2003 and I was reveling in all the rap beefs. Enough time had passed since the Biggie/Tupac catastrophe that rappers could start angrily rhyming at each other again. Twitter wasn't around yet. 50 was running around embarassing himself with that Candy Shop song (I'm never letting that go).

Then all of a sudden Jesus Walks started getting airtime.

"They say you can rap about anything except for Jesus
That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes
But if I talk about God my record won't get played Huh?
Well let this take away from my spins
Which will probably take away from my ends
Then I hope this take away from my sins
And bring the day that I'm dreaming about
Next time I'm in the club everybody screaming out
Jesus Walks"

I've said it countless times - I admire how Kanye portrays himself. He will say and do anything, regardless of how unpopular it is just because he believes in it.

Lately he's become an enthusiastic little tweeter and the hashtah #KanyeNewYorkerTweets has been invented. Kanye tweets paired with New Yorker cartoons. Check out what one of the cartoonists had to say about that.
