Here's another Ikea adventure with more ikea and less adventure. I got a Vika Amon table off craigslist. It had
this top and
these legs. Gorgeous huh?
I forgot to take pictures of it until I'd already removed the legs so here's one of it upside down (
What? I wasn't going to reassemble it for a picture!):

I bought sisal rope at the trusty Depot and picked up cherry wood stain. I wrapped the legs:

then tied off the ends using the thin sisal string that holds the rope together inside the packaging. The rope had such a tight curl from its packaging that just tying off the ends kept it from unravelling.

Then I took cherry wood stain, a foam brush and proceeded to splatter myself into faux leprosy as I painted the outside of the rope. I used up and down brushstrokes so only the outside would stain while the inside maintained its beigeness.

I waited two days for it to dry (and it was still rather sticky) then set in with my staple gun and fabric from that
garage sale a few weeks ago. I used spray mount on the back of the fabric for added guidance.

I tucked the corners in as if I were wrapping a gift and stapled those too. My roomy suggested a suede or leather "corner" sort of like you see in scrapbooking so I'll keep an eye out for that. I'd also like to find a piece of glass to place over the entire thing but this week Ikea only had smoky glass in the "as-is" section and I haven't priced it anywhere else.

The table will serve as a buffet/side table in the dining room so leaving the cloth exposed for now is ok with me :)

Great makeover & very original. No one else will have a table like yours.
What a great make-over. I love how the rope shows the tone of both colors.

What a great idea to cover up those legs! The fabric you used is really pretty as well. I hope you find the glass you're looking for!
