No more Mr. Nice Guy

"We tell you you're "nice" because we don't want to be rude, we don't want to risk your aggression, and most of all, we want you to leave us alone."

Well articulated Salon article on the Sodini effect. Apparently his family and friends were gone, girls kept telling him he was "nice" and he'd enrolled in a dating workshop teaching men in their 30s how to pick up 20 year old chicks.

The idea of dating workshops creep me out. Its one thing to change a superficial part of yourself (2009 is probably a good time to lose 80s hair) but studying to be someone else is an entirely different situation. This whole "women only like jerks" mentality is so misogynistic.

Quote from article: "I doubt any straight woman -- even the kind with a stated preference for "bad boys" -- has ever said to herself, "Hmm, I'd be really into this guy if he weren't so compassionate, thoughtful, and respectful. If he'd just dick me around and insult me a little more, I'd want to rip his clothes off."
