RIP Walgreens Rebates

So its official - Walgreens is doing away with their Saver rewards program. This used to be my favorite program because it awarded an extra 10% when you requested the rebate in the form of a Walgreens gc. I used the gift certificate to pay for medication and gifts numerous times.

Instead they are moving towards a register rewards program where the consumer buys and the printer gives them an instant coupon for $x.xx off their next purchase.

The downsides to this program are:

1. Broken or off-line machines - You'd be surprised how often the machine just doesn't print the coupon or absent minded consumers walk away without waiting for their coupon.

2. Coupons are too wide - They don't easily fit in coupon holders.

The upside of course:

UNLIMITED QUANTITIES! This is amazingly...amazing during weeks like this one where Walgreens has six different items for free after the register reward. Most of these items have coupons right on them or in front on the shelf so they are instant money makers!
