"Lead Law" Delayed a Year

Baby ToyThe big news in crafty blogs this week is the one year delay on the "children's lead law"

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission voted unanimously (2-0) to issue a one year stay of enforcement for certain testing and certification requirements for manufacturers and importers of regulated products, including products intended for children 12 years old and younger. These requirements are part of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), which added certification and testing requirements for all products subject to CPSC standards or bans.

I am annoyed by this law. I read a lot of "mommy blogs" and they're upset about not being able to buy and sell used children's toys and clothing. They're also upset at not being able to afford to make, buy and sell children's toys and clothing. The argument they keep using is that its always been done and children are fine.

Delaying this law for a year only helps this year's loudmouths. We love children and protecting them is emotional blackmail. This law will inevitably pass and today's complainers that saved a few bucks buying items with lead in them will whine tomorrow when they see how wrong they were.
