on my HGTV addiction

I am an Ali groupieI have a confession to make. I am an HGTV addict with a penchant for patterned fabrics, layering window covering and sighing over Ali Azhar.

You see, I'm a nester. I move frequently, am seldom attached to furniture and always attempt a warm home. I don't see a residence for what it is but for the potential it has.

Blame HGTV. I read their books and visited their sites for years before getting cable. I learned that any discarded item with solid bones can be revived with sand paper, spray paint and vision. Pre-made is eschewed.

I read Confessions of a Mad Decorator the night I stayed up until 3am painting and staple gunning a trunk into a striped masterpiece. I could have written that - assuming I were a better writer!

When faced with a sea of choices, it's helpful to recall the view of William Morris, founder of England's arts and crafts movement: "Have nothing in your home that you don't know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."
