Stolen Wallet Checklist

pickpocket
A friend had her wallet stolen recently which has placed me in a thoughtful mood. While my alien embossed wallet is hardly a snatcher's Holy Grail I'd be distraught without it.

So here's a list of stuff I cart around and who I'd need to call and complain to should it go missing:

1. $20 bill - Complain to the universe
2. Spare car key - Car has alarm so I doubt anyone would be able to steal it. Buy another key.
3. Library Card - The librarians would probably laugh if I alerted them to a literary thief but I'd need a new card anyway.
4. License - There's no 1-800 number on this thing! Google says 888-486-3339 in NJ
5. AMEX - 800-521-6121
6. Wachovia - 800-922-4684
7. Mastercard - 800-633-7367

Should my wallet be stolen I'd also need to contact the three credit bureaus:
Equifax: 1-800-525-6285
Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742
Trans Union: 1-800-680-7289

This was actually a good exercise as it made me shred cards I'm not using but need to keep open. I also shredded the spare social security card and put away old business cards I kept for sentimental purposes. Also my free Subway cookie token expires next month - must capitalize on that soon. Adios George Constanza wallet, hello sleek!

Here's hoping this was another exercise in over-preparedness and not someting I'll need to search for in the future.
