Movie Thoughts - Awake

I'm not sure how I ended up on this Stephen King kick but last night my roomy picked up Awake. Man was that disturbing.

In the movie Anakin Skywalker is young, rich, successful and the unfortunate owner a bad heart. He goes in for a heart transplant but rejects the anesthesia so remains aware (and feeling all pain) but paralyzed during the procedure. I won't spoil the flick more than the previews but it gets rather interesting when he starts having out of body experiences visiting his past like Jim Carey in that Sunshine movie or the woman from Our Town who haunted birthdays.

The movie didn't get many stars on Amazon and imdb gave it a solid 6.5 out of 10 which I think is a disservice. I mean sure some things were ridiculous (Jessica Alba running into the OR in street garb was pretty nuts) but its still one of the better translations of a Stephen King story I've seen - mostly because the main character is unable to move and we become internal monologue voyeurs.

The movie had Jessica Alba (why my roomy rented it), the football player from Jerry McGuire, Captain Push from Medium and some other famous people I didn't bother to imdb. Click the picture to have amazon show you the trailer.

I wish blockbuster had mini kiosks where you could preview trailers. At almost $5 a pop you should get a preview before commiting.
